It seems the latest rise in fuel costs has brought down tidal waves on the truck market.

Reports of large truck such as the Ford F350 indicate that US pricing has dropped $20,000 on some. Stocks have plummeted to record lows. Dealerships are offering bellow cost deals to people walking in off the street.

Well Canada seems to be gun shy. The US is in full blow panic. Factories are being shutdown.

I am surprised how much impact the fuel forecast has had on the truck market. $20,000 off a $60,000 truck 1/3 or 33% in a market that is famous for offering up fake sales and gimmick promotions.

Needless to say I am surprised and disappointed as I just bought a new truck. I am sure trucks are not the only ones impacted just goes to show where the economy is right now. Hold onto your cowboy hats folks, going to be a rough one.

I can't say I'm sad to see any motor vehicles in general, and certainly not any of the larger gas guzzlers, dropping in sales and use.  We need to curb their use for the good of everybody.  I really find it kind of appalling that for this long being able to do more damage to the environment in your everyday life is such a status symbol.

http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/djf500/200807241627DOWJONESDJONLINE000869_FORTUNE5.htm

DETROIT -(Dow Jones)- Ford Motor Co. (F) abandoned its decade-long strategy of reliance on pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles to drive its U.S. sales by announcing plans Thursday to boost small car production in the region.

Now comes the hard part, making it work.

A confident Ford Chief Executive Alan Mulally told analysts Thursday that the auto maker will convert three pickup-SUV plants in North America to churn out six new cars as part of a transformation. Ford, Mulally said, is "moving aggressively" to use its global strength by expanding its small car production.

 this good news?

Yes and no, in my opinion.  They're showing some willingness to change, which is positive, but they changing to adapt to immediate conditions.  Conditions are not going to stabilize where they are now for the long term, so they're showing no foresight beyond recognizing that things are going to go back to the blissful ignorance they're used to, which is not positive.

Not everyone drives them as a satus symbol. I happen to be one of those. They are made for work and do it well.

I think the change is less enviriment forced and more economy. As is all diesels are being forced to lower emissions which I might add do not help fuel economy.

Oh, of that I'm well aware, but I don't imagine the drop in truck sales is due to people who need them for work deciding to do without, either.  It's absolutely economy based, but that doesn't make the shift any less positive from an environmental stand-point.

Realistically how many Cadillac pickups do you see around. No doubt people buy cars as a status symbol but it is not limited to cars alone. Just more visible.

I wonder if large corporations get hit as hard with fuel costs or do they get breaks. If prices go up significantly might not be able to afford the fuel to drill the very oil they burn.  :o
