It is more of a question then an answer or article. Looking for information on how the deposit works.

By increasing the deposit charges it is said they hope to increase participation but what happens to that money that does not get refunded?
Why is there no collection service?
Is recycling not profitable enough for companies to actively pro cue?

Hey Mikey!

http://www.abcrc.com/cfm/index.cfm

DOn't know if that'll help or not. I'm all for recycling! I heard recently that the recession is decreasing demand for recycled materials globally, but I think if we can increase the number of bottles that get recycled to be turned into new ones right here in Alberta we should do it - even if it costs a little more...

Recycling is great where necessary, but I'd love to see a lot more in the area of reduction and re-use before resorting to recycling.  Glass bottles can be washed and reused multiple times, where cans have to be melted down and re-manufactured for every use by recycling.

Where recycling does occur, though, I think curbside pick-up is a preferable option.

I just look at my bill after going to the grocery store and see all these charges. And wonder to what end.

Would rather pay some one to pick up my recycling then to pay upfront on the idea that if I am good I will get my money back.

Just wonder if the system that is in place is for the enviroment or the pocket book of others.

Pop drinking Albertans should hold onto their empty aluminum pop cans. The price is going to double from 5 cents to 10 cents soon. 100% ROI. Now that's an investment grade tip. lol
